DSS stresses for promotion of Dogri language

JAMMU: Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) with representatives of various Dogra organizations and other prominent Dogras including Dr. Karan Singh, former Sadar-i-Riyasat, Padma Sachdev, Mohan Singh Salathia, and Kashmira Singh Advocate prominent Dogri writers, was able to get Dogri language included in the 8th schedule in 2003 after a vigorous struggle in the state as well as in Delhi, vide 92nd Constitutional Amendment Act 2003 on 22nd December, 2003.
DSS recalled the 16th anniversary of the achievement as ‘Dogri Manyata Diwas’ at Sabha Bhawan on Tuesday amidst all the COVID constraints.
The event was attended by besides, others, Prem Sagar Gupta, Col. Karan Singh, Brig. M.S Jamwal, Gambhir Dev Singh Charak, Janak Khajuria Madan Rangila, Rajinder Gupta, G.A Khawaja, Amanat Ali Shah and M.S Katoch.
The DSS president thanked Lt Governor for his rapid timely support and indulgence to make a comprehensive plan for restoration of the Heritage buildings, care of the archives as also face lift to the Purmandal/Utter Behni Shrines complex.
The members emphasized the necessity of preserving Dogri language and urged writers and poets to devote themselves in developing, promoting and popularizing the language by writing more and producing quality literature.
They thanked the UT Government for inclusion of Dogri among official languages and introducing some lessons on Dogra history for Classes 6th to 8th syllabus in the schools under J&K Board of School Education.
The meeting also urged the Dogri speaking population to put in all out efforts to promote Dogri art, culture, language and preserve the Dogra heritage, make maximum efforts to promote by speaking Dogri language within homes, in family with children and in society and urged the Government to introduce Dogri as a subject in the schools and colleges of the State.
It was also resolved to request the UT government to revive the Jammu Festival which was started by the efforts of DSS about 26 years back; in its original form to promote Dogri language, local artists, artisans, folk music/dances, cottage industry and to showcase maintaining the age old brotherhood among all the communities.
