ATM theft case solved, accused arrested, cash recovered

SRINAGAR: Police in Srinagar solved an ATM theft case by arresting an accused person involved in commission of crime and recovered stolen cash on his disclosure.
As per details, on November 27, 2020 Police Station Parimpora received a written complaint from Branch Manager J&K Bank Khumani Chowk Bemina Srinagar stating that cash amounting to Rs 9,06,400 is missing from an ATM near Khumani Chowk, Bemina, Srinagar. Accordingly, a case FIR vide No. 258/2020 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Parimpora and investigation was set into motion.
During the course of investigation, Police minutely examined the scene of crime and it was found that ATM was locked as usual without any mark of damage on it. During preliminary investigation, it surfaced that cash of ATM has been stolen by using code of machine, which raised doubt that theft has been carried out by person having knowledge of affairs of the bank code and other procedures related to opening and closing of ATM.
During investigation all the persons having acquaintance with ATM were questioned and finally a person, working as bank security guard in aforesaid bank confessed the crime. He was identified as Javaid Ahmad Malla, son of Ghulam Hassan Malla, resident of Khumani Chowk Bemina Srinagar. On his disclosure stolen cash of Rs 8,90,600 was also recovered. The accused was arrested and shifted to Police Station Parimpora, where he remained under custody.
