OTP/ Vishing fraud: Cyber Police saved Rs 2 lakh of gullible persons

SRINAGAR: Cyber Police in Kashmir saved Rs 2 lakh (approx) of gullible bank customers, who were targeted by cheaters.
As per details, a police official from Cyber Police said that a septuagenarian shopkeeper hailing from South Kashmir’s Tral area received a call from fraudsters posing as staff of Jammu & Kashmir Bank Headquarters. The caller told him that his ATM Card is going to be blocked and in order to renew the same, he had to give card details. The shopkeeper, who is illiterate, took help of his minor grand-daughter and did not even mind to share OTP, he received instantly.
The shopkeeper smelled foul play only when he received a message that an amount of Rs 95,000 was debited from his account. He frantically contacted Cyber Police Station Kashmir and lodged a complaint. Acting swiftly, the Financial Fraud Team of Cyber Police Kashmir succeeded in saving whole amount of victim.
In a similar incident, Cyber Police Station Kashmir got refunded Rs 72,938 to a Government employee of Srinagar city, who has also shared his Debit card details in same manner. The employee later realised that he has been duped, when he received a message from Bank that an amount of Rs 72,938 was debited from his account for Flipkart purchase. The victim quickly contacted Cyber Police Station Kashmir Zone, Srinagar and Cyber Police Station managed to save entire amount.
