Sukhnandan urges J&K Govt, parents to work jointly to curb drug menace

Suggests to educate children about ill-effects of Chitta, brown sugar & Heroin

JAMMU: Former Minister and senior BJP leader Choudhary Sukhnandan Kumar on Saturday appealed to the J&K administration to the tighten noose around drugs peddlers, operating in Jammu, in huge number. At the same time the minister also suggested government and parents to work together to curb this menace.
During a meeting of BJP workers in Jammu North Constituency, the senior BJP leader said that our society would be “ruined” over the next few years if growing abuse of banned drugs like Heroin, Chita, brown sugar smuggled from Pakistan, is not checked.
“If we let this grow, then in next 10 years, our society will be ruined,” Sukhnandan said. “If this contraband enters our youth and our families more and more, it will pain our older generation a lot.”
No doubt, the J&K government under the able guidance of Home Minister Amit Shah and LG Manoj Sinha making earnest efforts to protect and aware youth especially students from falling prey to Pakistan sponsored terror modules operating in some parts of J&K, but the role of parents and social workers is equally important to expose the drug peddlers, operating all over.
“Ignorance of consequences of the drugs, like Chita, brown sugar, is no excuse,” Sukhnandan said, appealing to the parents also to keep a strong check on their children so that we can save our families. “If youth is fit, the Nation is fit.” Sukhnandan added.
Police department must make necessary changes in its working so that not a single drug peddler can go scot-free, the BJP minister suggested adding “I am going to start a village to village and town to town and city to city drive to aware the youth and their parents to stay away from drugs like Chita, down sugar, which is being sold in many areas of Jammu.
Sukhnanan also appealed to LG Manoj Sinha to prepare an age-appropriate curriculum to educate children about the ill effects of drug abuse and integrate the same into the curriculum of all government schools and colleges in J&K.
He said that besides making yoga, sports, and physical activities a mandatory part in the curriculum in all government schools also.
Sukhnandan also stressed on the periodic visits of medical teams for conducting drug awareness campaigns in schools and colleges. It will robust the mental and physical health of children that would help in weaning them away from drugs being sold in open in rural and city areas by drug peddlers.
