Three truckers among 5 nabbed with 81 Kg poppy straw

BATOTE: Police on Tuesday arrested five persons including three truckers and recovered 81 kgs of poppy straw from vehicles they were travelling.
As per the details, acting on a specific information, a party from Police Station Batote during a Naka on National Highway at Nashri intercepted a truck (JK03B-8621) and recovered 25 Kgs of poppy straw from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle Abid Hussain and his associate Irfan Ahmed both resident of District Baramulla were taken into custody and the vehicle was seized. A case vide FIR No. 53/2018 under section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered against them at Police Station Batote.
In another incident, one truck (JK 01P -8720) coming from Srinagar towards Udhampur was signalled to stop at Naka Point Motor Shed Chenani, but the driver managed to escape along with the vehicle which was found abandoned at Champeri. During checking, police found three bags of Bhuki Doda weighing 46 kg concealed inside the scrap tyres. The driver has been identified as Riaz Ahmed son of Mohammed Shafi resident of Dragar Karnah Tanghdar Kupwara from the Challan of scrap, driving licence, Aadhar Card receipt and other documents seized from the vehicle and later was arrested from Ramban area when he was trying to escape to Kashmir. A case vide FIR No 46/2018 under section 8/15 NDPDS Act was registered against him.
In another operation, Chenani police laid a Naka at Zero Point and recovered 10 kg of Bhuki from a truck (JK02AL- 1497) which was also coming from Srinagar towards Udhampur. The driver of the truck namely Talib Hussain son of Hakim Din resident of Baishty Chenani and conductor Sunil Kumar alias Sonu son of Bishan Dass resident of Narsoo Chenani were arrested and a case vide FIR no 47/18 under section 8/15/29 NDPS Act registered against them and investigation has been entrusted to SI Haleem Khan.
