RAJOUR/POONCH: Incessant rains and flood waters continued to create havoc in Rajouri and Poonch Districts for the third consecutive day but the Indian Army yet again rose to the occasion in the service of the people of J and K. In rescue operation that were characteristic of the grit and determination of the army, columns of Ace of Spades Division located at Rajouri, brought to safety, approximately 400 civilians marooned in various rivers and Nallahs in the area.
In a daring operation, almost 60 people were rescued after establishment of an aerial cableway over the raging waters of Kandil Nallah in Rajouri. In Dhangri, also in Rajouri, the army got food across to 10 people who had been caught in flood waters before bringing them to safety. Almost 300 men, women and children were taken to safety from a remote village near the line of control in Poonch thereby preventing them from a landslide which subsequently hit the area.
The Poonch Brigade has also opened med camps to provide succour to the aggrieved people and provided assistance to approximately 100 civilians. In Nowshera, the efforts are on by the army to recover bodies of the unfortunate marriage party which had been washed away in a bus on 3rd September 2014 while crossing a causeway in spate. All in all, the Ace of Spades Division has yet again come to the fore for the welfare of the people of Rajauri and Poonch, in its inimitable way.
