PEEU holds protest, highlights demands

JAMMU: Provincial Electric Employees Union (PEEU), on Tuesday held a protest near Rajinder Park, here against the government for not considering their genuine demands.
A large number of employees of Power Development Department (PDD) participated in the demonstration, which was led by President of the Union, P.C Sharma.
They raised slogans against government for not releasing the long pending wages of need based workers and amendment in SRO 520.
Later, a procession was taken out towards Chief Engineer EM&RE office Jammu and Sharma also met the Chief Engineer.
P.C Sharma said that 3,405 need based workers are working on crucial assignments like lineman and SBAs in the department and they are running 10-15 sub stations each with full risk to their lives but till date government has not made any budgetary provisions for the payment of their long pending wages.
Sharma said that the other sister departments like PHE, Forest etc. have reflected the timely budget for payment of wages of their need based casual labourers but PDD authorities did not take any initiative up to February 2014 to reflect the budget of such workers to Finance Department.
Sharma demanded to amend SRO-520 with the inclusion of benefit of SRO 43 in the policy.
He warned the government authorities to face the consequences if the pending wages of these workers are not released at the earliest.
Bishan Singh, Pawan Kumar, Darshan Verma, Shasi Pal and Jatinder Singh were also present in the protest.
