BHADARWAH: Normal life was affected in Bhadarwah and Kishtwar of Chenab region on Tuesday due to shutdown call given by the Anjuman Islamia Bhadarwah and Imam Jamia Masjid Kishtawar to express their resentment over the killing of civilians in south Kashmir during different encounters.
Shops, other business establishments and some private schools of particular community remained closed, however government schools, offices and banks are functioning normally. Traffic also remained thick on the roads.
Anjuman Islamia Bhadarwah and Majlis-e-Shoura Kishtwar have called for a shutdown in protest of the civilian casualties during three encounters in Kashmir Valley on Sunday.
President Anjuman Islamia Bhadarwah Pervaiz Ahmed Sheikh said that we have given a call for peaceful Bandh to lodge our protest against innocent civilian killings in Kashmir, but for how long we will keep our emotions, especially those of youth in control, as both the governments instead of initiating the talks are on killing spree and harassing of Muslims on one pretext or the other. We are being pushed to the wall for which retaliation is bound to happen, he added.
“Government is testing our patience and if any untoward thing happens in Chenab Valley, none but government will be responsible for that,” Sheikh added.
Elaborate security arrangements were made in all the major towns of district including Bhadarwah and Kishtwar.
SDPO Bhadarwah Brijesh Sharma said that, the jawans and officers have been advised to practice maximum restraint, but to deal with any ugly situation, we have deployed columns of police, JKAP and CRPF at all the sensitive places and also outside the mosques.
