VIJAYPUR: Former Minister and Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) General Secretary Manjit Singh on Sunday accused State as well as Union Government of diluting laws protecting Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking before the party workers at Vijaypur during a monthly meeting, former Minister Manjit Singh expressed serious concern over the treatment to the downtrodden section of society even as they are provided protection under the Constitution of India as well as State.
“The court, the BJP Government in Jammu and Kashmir and in Center are trying to dilute the laws which were created for the protection of SC/ST/OBC people,” he alleged.
He further said that whether it is SC/ST Atrocity Act, the government is trying to dilute the constitutional rights using Courts and hence, the forcing the weaker section of society to face harassment.
“Now FIR cannot be registered initially on any complaint by the SC/ST on atrocities but a DySP level police officer has to first investigate the allegations and only then, there can be FIR registered but the chances are less in view of previling situation across the country,” said Manjit Singh citing several examples where saffron brigade has damaged Dr B.R Ambedkar statues in Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country.
The JKPCC General Secretary said that “The present government’s policy has demoralised the downtrodden section of society which has also created a divide in the social fabric.”
He further said that communal elements have damaged the statues which shows the policies of the present government which has given them free hands.
