JAMMU: Second Additional Sessions Judge Jammu Pawan Dev Kotwal on Wednesday awarded one year Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) and fine of Rs 2 lakh to a cop namely Amarjit Singh in bigamy case.
The court observed that trial is pending for more than 21 years as the complaint came to be filed on December 26, 1996 and therefore it goes in favour of the convict, as conviction itself entails serious consequences and it is also true that the accused has reached the age of 59 years and his father is physically dependent on him.
Court ordered that the accused is sentenced to Rigorous Imprisonment for one year and fine to the tune of Rs 2 lakh. Court further ordered that the fine shall be recoverable from his estate and on deposit, shall be paid to complainant Jeet Kaur.
