Police holds drug de-addiction awareness programme

BHADARWAH: Doda Police continuing with its series of awareness and sensitisation programs on increasing menace of drug abuse, especially among youth and students,  organised a drug de-addiction awareness programme at Additional District Bhadarwah on Thursday.

This campaign is aimed at creating awareness about misuse of drugs and to sensitise youth in the areas which are prone to drug abuse.

The programme during which a brochure with the title ‘Drug Abuse A Cause of Concern’ was also released and in which 200 youth from Bhadarwah town and its peripheral areas participated was organised at Community Hall Kotli, where SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir was the Chief Guest while Director AIR Bhadarwah Innayat Ullah Gowhar, Tehsildar Bhadarwah Masood Ahmed and DFO Vivek Verma were the Guests of Honour.

The focus of the programme was to provide insight to the youth about the seriousness of drug addiction,  how to deal with drug addicts and peddlers simultaneously to weed out the rapidly spreading venomous menace from the society.

Starting the session renowned educationist Arif Rana spoke about drug addiction and the treatment facilities and de-addiction programmes available at Police Drug De-addiction Centre followed by a detailed lecture of the Counsellor Baljeet Singh about general information on drugs, their effects, causes of addiction, signs of heroin use and treatment for drug abuse.

“Apart from activities /events scheduled at different parts of the district, Doda Police is organising number of activities which include anti drug awareness programmees, counseling of addicts and their parents and motivating society especially youth to stand firmly against the menace of drugs.

Officers will also visit the homes of addicts to spread awareness by providing them counselling at their door steps, “said SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir.

“Under civic action programs, we keep on organising these programmes for rehabilitation of addicts and also for the awareness of young as we are seeing some positive results and in future also we will carry with our mission to eradicate this menace from the society,” SSP added.

At the end of the programme, ASP Bhaderwah Rajinder Singh released the brochure  while SDPO Bhadarwah Brijesh Sharma presented vote of thanks and also informed that a drug de-addiction counseling center has been opened at police complex, Kotli Bhadarwah.

Those who spoke on the occasion include Tehsildar Masood Ahmed, BMO Dr. Yudhvir Singh, ASP Rajinder Singh, SDPO Brijesh Sharma and Arif Rana, besides some youth.
