REASI: District Magistrate Prasanna Ramaswamy G convened a meeting of District Road Safety Committee to finalise a road map to control accidents and streamline traffic flow in the district, here on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by SSP Tahir Bhat, CPO Harbans Lal, ARTO Shami Sharma, CMO Dr.L.D. Bhagat, CEO B.S. Jaral, XEn R&B Hem Raj Langeh, DySP Nikhil Gogna, EO Municipality Rattan Lal and various other officers.
The road map includes improvement of hilly roads in a phased manner, installation of parapets at identified locations, parking lots, diversion of traffic from Salal road to ease ongoing widening work by construction agency, vehicles for hungry routes, regular inspection of vehicles by Executive Magistrate especially in hilly areas.
In the meeting, 31 route permits, for hungry routes, were approved by the committee. The committee further approved permits of mini-buses for routes from Reasi to Arnas, Mahore to Angralla, Reasi to Kundra, Arnas to Judda and Reasi to Dera Baba.
While stressing on identification of roads that need improvement, the DM asked Executive Engineer R&B to provide details of roads from Reasi to Tote and Arnas to Thakrakote that need upgradation and maintenance. Instructions were also passed for stopping entry of heavy vehicles on Reasi-Sulla road.
DM also instructed the executing agencies to conduct joint exercises and ban the illegal parking of vehicles alongwith effective implementation of road safety rules, norms and regulating smooth traffic besides properly verifying licenses, character and conduct of drivers and helpers.
DM also directed CEO to organize awareness camps for sensitizing local people and students with traffic rules and road safety measures which are to be followed by guest lectures by the representatives of Education, Health, MVD, Police and social agencies.
