KVK Reasi distributes mulberry saplings to farmers

REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi with the co-ordination of Division of Entomology of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) on Monday distributed the quality mulberry (Morus Alba) saplings of improved variety (H-1635) to the farmers of Tanda and Kanjali villages.

The plantation of the mulberry plants was technically supported by the SKUAST-J Scientist Dr.Kamlesh Bali. Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi said that silkworm farming has immense scope in the area and there is urgent need to adopt the latest techniques in the sericulture so that the quality and quantity of silk can be increased. He guided the farmers for transplanting techniques of mulberry plants and said that the mulberry plants chopped leaves are the main feed for the silkworms.

Dr.Sanjay Kaushal said that there is need to gear up the innovative technologies in the sericulture industry as the new technologies help to enhance the production and productivity of silk so that the small scale farmers can be benefited. Dr.Mandeep Singh Azad, scientist said that scientific sericulture can be helpful to increase income and employment among the farmers of the area.
