JAMMU: National Conference, State Vice President, Rattan Lal Gupta on Monday regretted over the reported letter written by Finance Minister, Haseeb Drabu to Speaker, Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta seeking immunity for Jammu and Kashmir Bank Ltd by keeping it out of the purview of discussion or debate.
“If the reports are true then it amounts to muzzling of voice, which is unheard of and undemocratic”, he said, adding that people in general and elected representatives in particular have a right to ask questions where nearly 52 per cent government money is involved.
He said being banker of the Jammu and Kashmir Bank Ltd., the institution is accountable and its functioning has to be transparent.
Transparency and accountability assumes greater importance, especially in the wake of alleged reports of NPA increasing alarmingly over the past three years. He expressed apprehensions about something being concealed from the people of the State.
