Jammu: Three persons including the Incharge of Police Post Supwal have been suspended for dereliction of duty in Samba district while departmental enquiry into the case has also been ordered for dereliction of duty and favouring an accused inside the lock-up by setting him free without legal formalities.
Accused identified as Deepak Kumar, who was arrested on a complaint of his uncle that he abused and thrashed him, was set free by the Incharge Police Post Supwal Sub-Inspector Neeraj Rohmetra last week allegedly ‘under pressure’ without completing legal formalities.
“Soon after his release, he went to his uncle namely Inderjeet Choudhary’s house and attacked him with a dagger leaving him seriously injured,” a police officer said, adding, “after committing the crime, he returned to the Police Post with the weapon of offence and was again re-lodged in the barrack.”
“The S-I without verifying the facts, re-arrested him under Section 307 of RPC (attempt to murder) and took him into custody,” he said. The officer said that there was resentment amongst the villagers against the accused and the police wherein it was alleged that the police personnel was ‘hand-in-glove’ with attacker following which a four-member Special Investigation Team was constituted.
“During investigations while recording statements of other accused persons in the lock-up, it came to fore that he was released last week during midnight by the Police Post Incharge and action initiated,” police officer said.
Meanwhile Inspector General of Police S D Singh Jamwal today suspended the Incharge Neeraj Rohmetra along with Lock-Up Sentry Mohammad Haneef and Munshi Selection Grade Constable Kulbir Singh.
“A departmental enquiry has been initiated against the trio,” said the police officer.
