BANIHAL: National Conference leader and District President, Ramban Sajjad Shaheen on Tuesday sought probe into the alleged multi crore embezzlement of funds under Constituency Development Fund allocated to Member Legislative Assembly in Banihal over the years. In a statement, Shaheen said that the people have been complaining that the funds have been withdrawn for certain things having been undertaken by various departments in Banihal Constituency but no action was taken on the ground. Expressing grave concern over the burgeoning corruption in Banihal, Shaheen urged upon various vigilant organisations including SVO, Crime Branch, SAC to take appropriate and early action into the reports of large scale irregularities in implementation of various schemes in the Banihal Constituency including the CDF. He said that a well knit mafia enjoying political patronage of local MLA is operational in Banihal Constituency which manages contracts for development works of almost all departments including R&B, RDD, Irrigation and Flood Control, Soil Conservation, Water Shed Projects under Agriculture Department etc and said that while huge payments were being withdrawn against shipshod works in connivance with some officers. He said that an independent probe and special audit can reveal the truth with regard to the nexus between officials and the politicians.
