JAMMU: The poorly maintained rotary set-up in the name of great patriot, warrior and saviour of Jammu and Kashmir Brig Rajinder Singh housing his statue highlights gloomy character of Jammu’s civic authorities, which seldom show any concern towards the landmarks installed in the city to remember the sacrifices and colossal contributions of such personalities.
Despite, significant location merely few yards away from Winter Secretariat of the State, the aforesaid rotary is reeling under sheer neglect of concerned authorities which nowadays never fail to boast of their contribution towards making Jammu a Swachh City. The height of indifference towards aforesaid public place is that none from the authorities bothered to even clean the area on the birth anniversary celebration of great soldier of the nation in whose name rotary has been constructed.
The gloomy side of the picture is that except wild growth of bushes nothing has been planted in the rotary showing the lethargy and apathetic attitude of the concerned authorities towards places constructed to showcase and enhance the beauty of Jammu city. The stinking water tank full of filth at the site which has turned out to be a breeding place for mosquitoes also exposes the lackadaisical approach of concerned authorities which failed to utilize this facility to nurture flowers and grass to enhance the beauty of the spot which is a vital link connecting Jammu east constituency with Jammu west and also Gandhi Nagar through old flyover.
The residents of adjoining areas informed that several times they have reported the matter to officials concerned but so far no action has been taken to maintain this rotary. “There is not even a single bench in this park, what to talk of other facilities,” they lamented.
They alleged that the concerned agencies have almost abandoned the park.
Rattan Kumar, a resident, said, “Instead of providing better environment to nearby residents, it has become a health hazard. No one bothers for its bad condition. The corporation has failed to ensure its maintenance.”
On one hand the state government is promoting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and on the other the concerned agencies have failed to maintain the Rotary situated at the heart of the city.
