JAMMU: The Departmental Promotion Committee of the J&K State Sports Council is meeting at Srinagar tomorrow to clear promotions of coaches, who were waiting for their due promotions since long.
Secretary, State Sports Council has ensured that justice will be done and all deserving coaches both males and females will be promoted to next level as per the norms.
Meanwhile, all eyes are now on tomorrow’s much awaited Departmental Promotion Committee awaiting to know whether an institution headed by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti would be able to clear the names of the female coaches or only the blue-eyed will take the driver’s seat.
If sources are to be believed, the DPC will be held tomorrow afternoon at Srinagar but may only clear the names of male coaches serving in various sports disciplines. The apprehensions however, have invited criticism from the female coaches.
“There are around 25 coaches, whose promotion is due for the past so many years,” Sports Council sources here said.
They said that out of 25 coaches, eight of them are females, who have been waiting for this moment for the past 12 to 15 years of service.
“We have been given time bound promotion but the designation promotion is still due,” one of the senior female coaches pleading anonymity here said.
She however, rued that in order to benefit them, the Standing Committee passes various decisions but when comes to promotions, the department gives a plea that they (females coaches) could not be promoted due to CSR (Civil Services Regulations) norms.
Meanwhile a senior male coach of the State Sports Council while extending support to his colleagues said, “Women coaches should get their due share they deserve because they are contributing equally and in cases more than their counterparts.”
He said that the department cannot be biased to the female coaches in case of promotions especially when it is being headed itself by the lady Chief Minister as its President.
Secretary State Sports Council Wahid Parra when contacted, said, “We have no such proposal of holding up promotion of women coaches.”
“All the coaches, who would fall into the category of promotion and whose elevation to the next rank is due, will be considered accordingly in the DPC meet,” said Parra.
