Programme on organic pest management held

JAMMU: An awareness-cum-training programme on Integrated Insect-Pest for vegetable crops was organised by Division of Entomology, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at Village Mishriwalla (village Kalyanpur) on Saturday.
The programme was organised in collaboration with Directorate of Agriculture, Jammu under the guidance of Dr. J.P Sharma, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu. It was funded under NABARD project entitled ‘Scientific intervention for validation and popularization of traps for management of insect pests in vegetable growing areas of Jammu Region’. More than 50 farmers from different adjoining villages participated in the programme. Dr. Devinder Sharma, Principal Investigator of the project emphasized the need to adopt the preventive and scientific methods to manage insect-pests of vegetable crops. He demonstrated the low cost scientifically validated technologies for the control of various insect-pests in the vegetable crops.
Dr. A.K Singh, Co-PI of the Project, Dr Uma Shankar; AEO Mishriwalla, V.S Verma and Dr. Manoj Kumar were also spoke on the occasion.
On the occasion traps were distributed to the selected farmers being supplied by the Entomology Division for pesticide-free management of insect-pests problem in vegetables.
A Kissan Ghoshti was also held during the programme in which the farmers posed their problems faced by them in the cultivation of vegetables.
