BEERWAH: Launching a scathing attack on the regional political parties, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and former Chief Minister of J and K, Ghulam Nabi Azad said that they are making failed attempts to gain sympathy of the people by misleading them in the name of fighting BJP.
Azad said that people of the State are wise enough to understand the tantrums of the regional political parties, as their covert attempts to court the saffron party are hidden from none.
Asserting that Congress Party alone has the capability and commitment to fight the divisive agenda of the BJP, Azad appealed people to repose faith in the party by giving it a decisive mandate in the Assembly elections.
Azad was addressing a public meeting at Khag, Beerwah in support of the Congress Party candidate Nazir Ahmad Khan.
Exhorting the people to reject the opportunist politics of the regional political parties, Azad said that both the regional parties took full advantage of the support extended by Congress Party to enjoy the power and pelf, to follow it up with vile attempts to discredit the contributions of the Congress Party.
He said that UPA Government extended unprecedented political and financial support to both the regional parties in running the affairs of the State, and instead of acknowledging it, they have been displaying rank opportunism to besmirch its role, adding that the people of the State have fully comprehended their devious agenda and have decided to reject them.
Azad said that it has been a practice with the regional parties to blame Congress Party for their misdoings, non-performance and opportunism in the past as well adding that people have fully understood their vile games and have made up their minds to reject them outright.
Azad appealed people to reject the exploitative and opportunistic political parties as they do not have the will, sincerity and capability to steer the march of the State into twenty first century.
Reminding the people about the performance, people-friendly and balanced approach of the Congress led Govt from 2006-08, Azad said that we are seeking decisive mandate from the people of the State on the plank of development.
He said we are committed to make the State of Jammu and Kashmir as modern, progressive and prosperous State of the country.
Azad said that notwithstanding the liberal financial support of the UPA Government to the State Govt. for a better future of the youth and people of Jammu and Kashmir, non- serious approach of the State Govt. left the money unutilised and thus stalled the march of the State towards progress and prosperity.
Describing the running train from Baramulla to Banihal as a landmark achievement of the Congress party, Azad said that rail connectivity has brought enormous relief and support to the people of the Valley and has eased their lives.
Referring to the sluggish pace of the developmental programmes, Azad said that the Congress will revive its very successfully implemented model of double shift/ triple shift, if voted to power.
Urging the people to give one opportunity to the Congress Party to lead the Government, Azad said that we promise an era of progress and prosperity for the State of Jammu and Kashmir, without indulging in sterile rhetoric.
Underlining the need of rebuilding the flood-ravaged Kashmir Valley, Azad said that the Congress Party will focus on rehabilitating the flood-victims on a priority basis and will take immediate steps to provide adequate compensation to the people of the State.
Azad took a dig at the NDA Government for not showing seriousness to respond appropriately to the colossal tragedy inflicted by the floods in Kashmir Valley.
He said that while NDA Ministers spoke lavishly about the Central Government’s commitment to support people of the State, practically not a single penny has been disbursed to the people of the State.
Azad took a jibe saying “why the other political parties, who tend to be self-righteous, had gone into hibernation when the people of Kashmir Valley were submerged in the unprecedented floods”.
Azad said that people of the State have seen how Congress Party stood with the flood-affected people of the State in the hour of crisis and tried to provide succor, within its means and resources, albeit it was not in power in the Centre.
“We organized relief activities, ran medical camps to the best of our abilities, while other parties tried to score brownie points”, said Azad.
Ghulam Nabi Azad made a fervent appeal to the people of the State to give decisive and convincing mandate to the Congress Party to script a new chapter of progress, prosperity and economic revival.
