JAMMU: Organised by J and K Indian Style Wrestling Association and sponsored by the J and K State Sports Council, the IX State Championship shall be held at Dewan Mandir Akhara, here on 29th March.
The arrangements for the competition were reviewed in a meeting of the association held under the chairmanship of President of the Association and Joint Secretary, J and K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma, here on Sunday.
During the meeting, General Secretary of the Association, Bansi lal Tidyal informed the members that J and K State Sports Council has been sanctioned Rs 1, 25,000 as financial assistance for the annual competition. The participating teams in this day-long competition belong to the districts Kathua, Samba, Poonch, Udhampur, Jammu, Reasi, Rajouri, Anantnag, Ganderbal and Srinagar and J and K Police, a handout issued here on Sunday informed. Mulkh Raj Sharma has been appointed as Director of the Competition. The weighing shall start take place between 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM, followed by the fights from 11:00 AM onwards in the weight categories of 50 kg, 55 kg, 61 kg, 67 kg, 75 kg, 85 kg and +85 kgs upto 120 kg.
The championship shall be conducted according to the new guidelines issued by Indian Style Wrestling Association of India (ISWFI). The championship will be conducted on knock-out basis and for semi final, cross league will be conducted in each weight. The rules and regulations of ISWAI will be strictly followed, the handout added.
The members who attended today’s meeting were Prem Choudhary (Chairman), Inderjeet Khajuria (Senior Vice President), Prithvi Raj Sharma (Treasurer), Ram Paul Sharma, Shatrughan Jamwal (Vice-President), Prem Kumar, Om Parkash Kapoor (Executive Member), Rehmat Ali, Surinder Kumar and Sanjeev Sharma.
