UDHAMPUR: A monthly meeting of General Line Teacher’s Forum was held under the presidentship of General Secretary Rakesh Singh in Udhampur on Sunday.
While speaking on the occasion Singh welcomed the Govt. Order no 66 of Education Department which stated that there should be a screening test of those section of teachers and Masters prior to their promotion to next higher grade who have acquired degrees through distance education mode.
Singh lambasted those teachers forums who are opposing the screening test prior to promotion as these forum are always working for their petty interests and always oppose such orders which are enacted to improve the quality of education and are in the interest of highly qualified teachers and Masters. Rakesh Singh said that criteria of promotion should be based on written test ignoring the seniority of teachers as it would lead to promotion of only capable teachers and masters and this would improve the quality of education in the department so that the faith of civil society on govt. schools can be restored which had eroded due to the SSA scheme.
Vivek Gupta Vice President urged the Education Minister to uphold the order 66 as it would help to bring the department again on track in long run which had delayed due to the previous promotion of such teachers and Masters who had acquired degrees through tuck shops and study centers. Forum members said that order no 66 is a big relief for regular degree holder teachers who had given their full time for study but such teachers and Masters who have acquired degrees through tuck shops are challenging this govt. order which is a big question mark on their credibility.
Others who spoke on the occasion -Sohan Lal, Ajit Gupta , Govind Singh, SK Mehboob and Azad.
