JAMMU: After passionate appeals made by Tajamul Islam, an eight year old Kashmiri girl, who had won a Gold Medal in 2016 World Kickboxing championship in Italy in the sub junior category, requesting the J&K Government to equip them with state-of-the-art training equipment and better infrastructure fell on deaf ears, Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Thursday intervened and urged Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to provide all possible infrastructural support to the State kickboxers and others.
The swift response from the Union Sports Minister followed after Tajamul, dejected with the approach of the State Government machinery, uploaded a video with the appeal to help the sporting fraternity by giving training with better facilities at their disposal.
After winning laurels in Italy, Tajamul was felicitated by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and was asked to list her requirements so that she can be provided with all possible assistance.
Sharing her frustration Tajamul claimed they had been issuing statements and promising everything but so far “we have not received any  thing in our academy”. She also urged the government to take steps towards creating indoor facilities for the athletes in the State.” I want training facility at an indoor stadium but we don’t have one in the area”, she added.
Tajamul, who could be seen in the video, requested “the government to improve the state of Ali Sports Academy, to which she was associated.”
In the letter addressed to the Chief Minister, the Sports Minister said: “The Government of India has funded establishment of multi-purpose halls in all districts in Jammu and Kashmir under the special package.
