JAMMU: Alleging that the State Government has turned a deaf ear to the repeated representations of the lecturers, contractual lecturers, who are on hunger strike for the last one month, State President, 10+2 Contractual Lecturers Forum, Arun Bakshi said it is unfortunate that despite assurance it failed to regularize them.
“The government has backtracked on its assurances earlier which prompted us to go on hunger strike,” they said.
“Contractual lecturers do as much work as those in regular service but the huge difference in their salaries and emoluments is unjustified, unconstitutional, illegal and in contravention of the principle of equal pay for equal work enshrined in the Constitution,” Arun said.
Arun demanded regularisation of contractual lecturers as per the Civil Services Special Provision Act 2010.
He added that the apathetic attitude of the government towards the contractual lecturers is showing disregard to the teaching communities.
The condition of Vinod Kumar, who is on fast since 14th February, 2017, has been deteriorating day by day but government never paid any attention towards the grievances of 10+2 contractual Iecturers, Arun said. Seema Rajput, another contractual lecturer sat on fast unto death from 12th March, 2017.
While Rakesh Khajuria, Yog Raj, Rajni Bala and Balvinder Kour sat on chain hunger strike.
