JAMMU: Sending members of J&K High Court Bar Association to tizzy, General Secretary of the Association A.P Singh on Wednesday declined to convene General House Meeting (GHM) of the Association on Thursday, which was called by its President Abhinav Sharma through a notice issued here on Wednesday.
Through a parallel notice issued on the same day, Singh has categorically nixed the agenda points including discussion on subscription fee, tenure of elected office bearers and voting rights of non-practicing lawyers, scheduled to be discussed in the aforesaid meeting.
“Tenure of the present office bearers shall expire on the seventh of this month, therefore it is inappropriate to discuss about the issue relating to tenure of office bearers in GHM at this juncture”, he said adding as far as voting rights of the non-practicing lawyers and minimum eligibility for such rights is concerned, an exclusive Committee had already been formed in GHM held on 8th May, 2016 and holding another GHM for the same reason that too at the fag-end of office bearers’ term carries no sense. He also made it clear that the issue of monthly subscription fee was also discussed threadbare and was decided in the GHM held on aforesaid date and convening the same to discuss the matter once again holds no ground. Meanwhile, President J&K High Court Bar Association has informed that in view of GHM scheduled for Thursday, the work shall remain suspended on 2nd March, 2017.
