Contractual lecturers’ hunger strike enters day 16
STATE TIMES NEWS
JAMMU: Demanding regular jobs, the hunger strike started by contractual lecturers entered its 16th day on Wednesday with protesting teachers alleging that the ruling Coalition Government was totally apathetic towards them.
The contractual lectures have been demanding regularisation as per the Civil Services Special Provision Act-2010, a policy framed for the regularisation of all ad hoc, contractual and consolidated employees after rendering seven years of service.
Speaking on the occasion, Forum President Arun Bakshi claimed that despite several assurances, successive governments in Jammu and Kashmir had discriminated with the lecturers who were facing a lot of problems.
“The State should implement the ‘equal work, equal wages’ ruling of the Supreme Court for contractual workers as working conditions are same for the lecturers who are permanent. The discrimination with the contractual workers should end immediately,” Bakshi said.
Vinod Kumar, who is on fast, said that he will continue his fast till their demands are fulfilled.
Other Contractual lecturers Randeep Kumar, Gurjeet Singh, Seema Rajput and Balwinder Kour also sat on hunger strike.
