NEW DELHI: Vice Chancellor, Central University Jammu, Prof. Ashok Aima called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) and MoS PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh and discussed wide range of issues related to the academic activities in the University and setting up of new teaching departments.
Prof. Aima profusely thanked Dr Jitendra Singh for having used his good offices to impart an exclusive identity to Central University, Jammu. He particularly thanked him for considering the proposal to set up J and K State’s first – ever teaching department in Administrative Studies at Central University, Jammu, with the support of Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Government of India.
He also thanked Dr Jitendra Singh for the initiative to set up a rare teaching department of Space Technology, for which Dr Singh had used his personal contacts to rope in world renowned Space Scientist and former Chairman, ISRO, Dr K. Radhakrishnan as the Advisor.
Assuring to extend all possible support for the growth of Central University Jammu as a premier teaching institution in the region, Dr Jitendra Singh said, in today’s time of quality education, competitive gradation and global
networking, it is important for any new emerging institution to develop an identity of its own either by way of exclusively extra-ordinary faculty and research or through exclusively different streams of study.
He said, it was with this intention in mind that he suggested to Vice Chancellor Aima to immediately start the process of setting up two first-of-its-kind teaching departments for Administrative Studies and Space Technology respectively.
Singh said, in his present assignment, he has the opportunity of dealing with a number of universities located distantly apart, as far as Central University in Silchar, Assam and Bangalore University in Karnataka, and what has been his most notable observation is that even in some of the best universities, a certain department is unable to attract meritorious students for undergoing courses simply because the students today have grown increasing cautious of “quality education” and “job placement”.
Singh also received from Prof. Aima, a resume of the civil works undergoing in the University Campus for construction of new blocks and connecting roads. Prof. Aima requested Dr Singh for his intervention for release of extra funds from University Grants Commission (UGC) to help expedite the ongoing works.
