300 Kg Lahan destroyed, two women held

JAMMU: Excise Department on Monday destroyed 300 kilograms of Lahan and recovered nine bottles of illicit liquor besides arresting two women under J&K Excise Act, while conducting raids at Bishnah and R.S Pura Excise Ranges.
Under the overall supervision of Excise Commissioner, J and K, T Angchuk and Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Jammu, Ghanshyam Singh, the Excise Team led by ETO City Excise Range South, Rohit Sharma and ETO Eradication Wing Jammu, Dr. Suraj Chander Singh assisted by Inspector Ritesh Gupta and Sub-Inspector Parshant Mathur, conducted a series of raids in Bishnah and R.S Pura Excise Ranges at villages Deoli, Makhanpur, Kothey Bulandae, Lalyana, Salehar, Tarachak, Sheikhupur, Shibuchak and Joian to arrest the menace of illicit distillation.
During the course of raids, two women namely Neelam Kumari, wife of late Surjeet Kumar, resident of Salehar and Ayodhya Devi, wife of late Bachan Lal, resident of Joian were arrested and booked under Section 48 of J&K Excise Act. Four bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from their possession. Besides this, about 300 Kilograms of Lahan and five bottles of illicit liquor made from Lahan, which is highly hazardous and injurious to health, were recovered by the raiding team from the State land. The excise team destroyed the recovered Lahan on the spot.
