Resentment brewing over long rope given to drug mafia

JAMMU: Civil Society Udhampur on Sunday expressed serious concern over the growing drug menace across the town, especially in the close vicinity of Rehmbal area that allegedly resulted in six deaths during the past one year.
“The menace is flourishing with active connivance of black-sheep in the police who are in total nexus with the mafia”, said several prominent civil society members, adding that they would soon be meeting Director General Police Dr S.P Vaid, who has vowed to fight this menace soon-after taking over as the Police Chief.
They said the drug mafia and bovine smugglers are having a field day with law enforcing agencies looking to the other side for obvious reasons.
Due to drug menace, they said, precious lives have perished, especially in Chak and Jib villages and across the Rehmbal area.
“Several families have been ruined as youth are lured to drugs by organised mafia”, they said, adding that it seems that the law breakers are enjoying impunity.
