The arrest of Jamaat-ud-Dawa leader Hafiz Saeed seems to be a result of Pakistan’s desperation to avoid sanctions being imposed by the Trump administration as well as Chinese pressure to get their house in order. There is enough on Hafiz Saeed in the dossiers submitted by India to convict him for the 26/11 attacks. It is in Pakistan’s interest to incarcerate Hafiz Saeed as he is also alleged to be involved in propagating radical Islamism. At the moment, the arrest appears to be an eyewash.
