Sports festival ‘Udhampur Olympics’ concludes;United Club Udhampur lifts T-20 trophy

UDHAMPUR: United Cricket Club Udhampur lifted T-20 Cricket Tournament trophy by defeating Simula Cricket club Jammu in the final, played at Subhash Stadium, here on Sunday.
The tournament was organised by Udhampur Police as part of the sports festival Udhampur Olympics organised under Civic Action Programme of Jammu and Kashmir Police, which concluded on Sunday.
In the T20 final, United Club Udhampur outplayed Simula Club Jammu by 29 runs.
Batting first after winning the toss, United Cricket Club scored 148 runs in 20 overs. Gourav Khajuria smashed 71 runs. In reply, Simula Club Jammu could manage only 119 runs in 19.3 overs thus lost the match.
Gourav Khajuria for his match winning knock was declared Man of the Match.
SSP Udhampur, Shailendra Mishra distributed prizes to winner and runner up teams and appreciated the hard work and enthusiasm shown by players.
SSP said that the motive behind organising the sports festival is to promote the spirit of sportsmanship among the youth and to keep them away from social evils and channelise their energy positively.
Besides cricket, under-19 Kabbadi boys title was won by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, which defeated Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1 Udhampur. Cherai Club Udhampur registered win over Chenani Club in Kabbadi Open category final. In handball open category, Parveen Club outplayed Udhampur Club and clinched the trophy.
