Guv inaugurates Inter-Collegiate Silver Rolling Volleyball C’ship

Udhampur: Governor N.N Vohra, inaugurated the Third State Level Governor’s Silver Rolling Volleyball Championship at the Government Degree College, Udhampur, in which 41 teams including nine women from the various degree colleges of the Jammu and Kashmir regions are competing.
Governor complimented Prof. S.S Bhalwal, Principal of the GDC Udhampur, and his concerned colleagues for successfully organising this championship every year.
Welcoming the participating teams, the Governor complimented the principal over the rapidly increasing number of colleges in the State whose teams are participating in this annual tournament.
Emphasising the significance of sports and games, the Governor observed that games provide an opportunity to the youth to develop sound character, healthy mind and body, besides inculcating in them a sense of discipline and cooperation. Governor urged all educational institutions to strive and organise regular sports activities. Governor noted that every educational institution has the responsibility of organising a high standard of academics and sports activities. He observed that unforeseen developments and adverse circumstances must not be allowed to affect the teaching schedules of educational institutions at all levels.
The Governor displayed keen interest in watching the exhibition volleyball match which was played between the teams of Government Degree College Udhampur and Government Degree College Budgam and was won by former. He complimented the players for their talented performance and presented medals to the members of both the teams.
Earlier, on his arrival, the Governor was presented with Guard of Honour by the College NCC contingent and the event was inaugurated with the unfurling of the Championship Flag by the Governor. Thereafter a very impressive cultural programme was presented by the students of the Government Degree College Udhampur.
The Governor also released Newsletter of the College.
Various cultural programmes including group songs, Dogri folk dance, Bhangra were also presented by the students.
S.S Bhalwal, Principal, Government Degree College presented the welcome address and Renu Goswamy, Director Colleges, presented the vote of thanks. Among those present included Pawan Kumar Gupta and Dina Nath, MLAs Udhampur and Chenani respectively, Nisar Ahmad, DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range, Niraj Kumar, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur and Shailendra Kumar, SP, Udhampur, ADC Avny Lavasa, Joint Director Planning Rakesh Jamwal, ACR Subhash Chander Dogra, Dy DEO Sapna Kotwal, DSWO Rachna Sharma, principals of different colleges besides large number of students.
