Disrespect to National Anthem: Two held in cinema hall

JAMMU: Two Kashmir-based youth were booked and arrested for not standing and showing respect to the national anthem being played before the start of a movie inside a cinema hall at Wave Mall in Narwal area.
“Two youths hailing from Kashmir have been arrested for allegedly disrespecting the national anthem by not standing when the anthem was played in a cinema hall here last night,” police sources on Friday said.
They said that someone among the viewers, complained to the police about the incident, following which prompt action was initiated.
“We have registered an FIR (31/2017) against both the persons under Section 2/3 of Prevention of Insult to National Honour,” a police official said.
He identified them as Javaid Ahmad Teeli, resident of Hillar, Anantnag, at present Sainik Colony and Mudasir Ahmad, resident of Neelipura, Handwara.
The Apex Court on November 30, in an order had directed cinema halls across the country to play the National Anthem before the screening of every movie and stated that all persons present must stand up in respect exempting differently-abled persons.
