Upgrade education system

Dear Editor,,
India is progressively marching towards the path of industrialisation as well as digitisation and its spectacular development in information technology is next to none. But educational system has been a problem in our country and lack of it has been blamed for all sorts of evil for hundreds of years. Our educational system has changed from Gurukula System to modern class system but in our country the system of education has reached to lowest level. In modern system rote learning is given preference and original thinkers and creativity is ignored. Rote learning still plagues our system, students study only to score marks in exams, and sometimes to crack exams like IIT JEE, AIIMS or CLAT. Knowledge is largely forgotten after the exam is over. Still, year after year Indian students focus on cramming information. The best crammers are rewarded by the system. This is one of the fundamental flaws of our education system. The curriculum or the syllabus for students in our country in higher education (in engineering colleges) is mostly outdated. Curriculum should have to be made dynamic but not dogmatic in nature. Focus should be given to skill based education and more emphasis should be laid on creativity, original thinking, research and innovation. We need leaders, entrepreneurs in teaching positions, not salaried people trying to hold on to their mantle. The goal of our new education system should be to create entrepreneurs, innovators, artists, scientists, thinkers and writers who can establish the foundation of knowledge based economy rather than the low-quality service provider nation that we are turning into.
