JAMMU After fighting street battles and highlighting the threat posed by mushroom growth of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis in and around Jammu and other parts of the region, now poster warnings have surfaced asking them to ‘Quit Jammu’.
Though no time line has been set for them to peacefully return to their homes and hearths but it seems pressure is gradually building on them to relocate from Jammu.
These posters have been put up by the Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party, spearheading a passionate campaign against Rohingyas mushrooming growth.
Through these posters an attempt is being made to bring Jammuities on one platform to save the history, culture and identity of Dogras.
Kashmir based political parties including National Conference and PDP have so far refrained from entering in to any verbal spat with those opposing their stay in Jammu region.
In the recently concluded Budget session, the State Home Department had made public the factual details available with the offical machinery.
According to the available data, “more than 5,700 Rohingyas have been stationed in Jammu and Samba districts and staying across scattered shelter points on the outskirts of Jammu”.
No Rohingya has been found involved in militancy related incidents, however, 17 FIRs have been registered against 38 Rohingyas for various offences including those related to illegal border crossing. Some NGOs namely ‘Shikawat’ run by Mohammad-ul-Umar of Srinagar along with Rashid, SR Institute of Development of Rambagh (Srinagar) and Delhi based NGO Daji are helping Rohingyas in cash and kind from time to time.
Senior security experts have also raised the issue of mushrooming growth of these foreign nationals warning the sitting officers that some of them could be exploited and become security risk as anti-national elements can exploit them for their own vested interests.
