Home Guards protest march foiled

JAMMU: The agitation of Home Guards for implementation of Supreme Court (SC) order in their favour was foiled by police on Tuesday afternoon.
J and K Home Guard Welfare Association on Tuesday took out a protest march to Gherao secretariat which was foiled by the police.
Led by Association President, Kamla Sharma, a large number of Home Guards assembled at Exhibition Ground from where they started protest march to Gherao secretariat which was foiled by the police near Dogra Chowk.
Protesters demanded implementation of SC order regarding extension of all benefits to Home Guards at par with police constables.
During the protest, Kamla Sharma accused the authorities for their slackness in implementing the Supreme Court order.
“Though Supreme Court order has been implemented in various states of the country but in J and K it was not implemented till date, which is grave injustice with the Home Guards,” she said.
Kamla said the previous governments failed to redress their issues for which they were raising their voice for the past several years.
“It is unfortunate that Home Guards have been ignored in the State. All the leaders had assured us that efforts would be made to get our genuine demands redressed,” she said.
She appealed to State Government to redress the demands of Home Guards and extend benefits to them as per Supreme Court directions.
Prominent among others who participated in the protest include Santosh Kumari, Kailash Devi, Shashi Bala, Darshna Devi, Sunita Devi, Usha Devi, Krishan Lal, Rakesh Kumar, Gopal Dass, Pawan Kumar, Soba Singh, Varinder Singh, Farooq Ahmed and Bilal Ahmad, Mushtaq Ahmed, Ab Gani, Gh Ahmed, Bikran Singh, Suresh Kumar, Anil Kumar, Ved Parkash, Tilak Raj and Imtiyaz.
