Vehicles to ply from Jammu to Srinagar today

JAMMU: Taking into consideration the bad condition of road especially between Udhampur-Ramsoo and Banihal to Levdora (Qazigund) besides narrow width of road at certain places, it has been decided to allow movement of traffic from Jammu towards Srinagar on 31st January subject to fair weather conditions.
This was informed by a handout issued by Traffic Police Department here on Monday. Movement of LMVs/passenger vehicles/Tankers shall be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) from 5:00 AM up to 11:00 AM and from Udhampur up to 1:00 PM only.
However, the movement of HMVs (excluding Trailers/multi-axle vehicles) including convoys of Army, BSF, CRPF etc shall be allowed from Nagrota (Jammu) from 6:00 AM up to 10:00 AM and from Udhampur up to 12:30 PM.
No vehicle shall be allowed from the abovementioned TCPs after the prescribed cut off timing under any circumstances.
All the officers of Traffic wing deployed on the NHW shall ensure proper co-ordination in regulating the traffic to avoid any confusion.
No movement of traffic including that of convoys of Army, BSF, CRPF etc. shall be allowed from Srinagar towards Jammu side on 31st January, 2017 under any circumstances to avoid hassle free movement of traffic.
All the Dy.SsP/DTIs/SOs of Traffic are directed to ensure that vehicles are not parked in any landslide/avalanche/vulnerable zones of NHW especially between Ramsoo-Jawahar Tunnel-Levdora road stretch under any circumstances. All the vulnerable/avalanche prone zones should be kept free from any kind of traffic to avoid any eventuality. People are requested not to undertake journey on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in case of bad weather. They should contact TCU Srinagar (01942450022, 2485396), TCU Ramban (9419993745) and TCU Jammu (01912459048) and officers of Traffic wing to get the status of the road before starting their journey. Meanwhile, Divisional Administration Kashmir on Monday issued a fresh medium danger avalanche warning for next 24-hours for hilly and avalanche prone areas of Kashmir Valley and Kargil district with isolated to scattered rains and snowfall forecast in Kashmir Division from 30th January.
“Medium danger avalanche warning valid for next 24-hours from 30th to 31st January, 2017 (1700 hrs) exists for avalanche prone slopes in Kupwara, Bandipora, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Budgam, Anantnag and Kargil districts” a statement of the Divisional Administration said.
“There is forecast of scattered rain/snow on January 30, isolated rains and snowfall from 31st January to 2nd February, and scattered rain/snow on 3rd February,” the statement added. Accordingly, Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir Division including Leh and Kargil have been asked to take precautionary measures in their respective districts and advise people not to venture in avalanche prone areas and to keep clearing snow depositions from roof tops of their houses and bunkers to avoid damages.
