JAMMU: Abhinav Kundal of Jammu has been selected from North Zone for the finals of GAIL Indian Speed Star Session-II scheduled to be held at New Delhi on 10th February.
“Selected at the district level trials from J and K, Abhinav contested in the similar trials held at the zonal level for North Zone at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchkula today. He has been selected after he completed the 400 meters distance in 51 seconds in under-17 year category,” informed State Representative of the National Yuva Cooperative Society (NYCS), Opinder Sharma.
A student of Kendriya Vidyalaya No II Jammu Cantonment, Abhinav was also selected last year for the national trials.
Another participant from Kathua, Kamal Sinha of Army Public School (APS) Janglote won bronze in 100 meters in under-14 trials.
In all, 185 athletes from North Indian states of J and K, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh and Punjab took part in the zonal level trials. Earlier, the trails were inaugurated by MLA Panchkula, Gian Chand Sharma in the presence of OSD to Chief Minister Haryana, Amit Arya and Director NYCS, Umesh Dutt Sharma.
