Rs 2.86 Cr spent on PoL, maintenance of ministers’ vehicles

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Government has spent a whopping sum of Rs 2.86 crores on account of fuel and maintenance of the vehicles deployed by the Security Wing with the ministers during the past two years.
According to official data tabled in Legislative Assembly, Rs 2.83 crores were spent on fuel while Rs 3.23 lakhs were spent on maintenance of these vehicles.
Along with this a large army of PSOs drawn from security, armed and district police are currently deployed with protected persons in the State.
To keep these protected persons mobile, the government has provided them with vehicles from security wing. If this was not enough some of the protected persons are fortunate enough to have guards deployed outside their residential houses as well.
According to Home Department, 4,464 PSOs have been deployed with categorized and un-categoized protected persons in the State. While 811 vehciles from the security wing have been deployed with them, 564 guards have been stationed outside the residential premises of protected persons in the State. The security cover to the protected persons is provided as per the guidelines of Ministry of Home Affairs as laid down in Yellow Book. The security of these protected persons is reviewed periodically by the security review coordination committee set up by the government.
