‘Keep Warila Pass open in winter’

LEH: Tsewang Dorjay, a former Panchayat member and a grassroots level activist from a village Tangyar in Nubra urged upon the authorities concerned for keeping the alternative road between Leh and Nubra through Warila Pass open all through the season.
In this regard Dorjay has recently called on Border Road Organisation (BRO) authorities and requested them to keep the road open. Talking to STATE TIMES Tsewang Dorjay said that since BRO is planning not to keep the road open in winter months, all 39 casually paid labourers engaged keep the road axis open are being discontinued for the winter months. He said that road was kept open last winter with labourers and machines and asserted that it must be kept open this winter also. Chief Engineer, Project Himank could not be contacted as he was on leave. Col Paswan, who is next authority to the Chief Engineer at Project Himank, assured STATE TIMES that he will look into the matter after getting ground information from 51 RCC which executes maintenance of Warila Road.
Warila is a Pass that stands between Sakti on Leh side and Agyam on Nubra side. Sakti- Agyam motorable road has been built by the BRO. This road is an alternative between Leh and Nubra during winter months also when Khardongla closes due to heavy
snowfall.
