NOWSHERA : Capt Sunder Singh, Ashok Chakra Class I who used to be honoured every year on the Republic Day on 26th January, expired on 23rd January, 2017, three days ahead of the Republic Day Function. People of his native village Chowki, Tehsil Nowshera resented non-availability of army or police troops to give Guard of Honour to hero of the country.
Capt Sunder Singh (90) son of late Kalyan Singh resident of Village Chowki, Tehsil Nowshera, district Rajouri joined the Indian Army in 4 JAK Rifle. He displayed his bravery while fighting against Pak Army and was awarded Ashok Chakra class I, by the first President of India Dr. Rajinder Prasad in 1956. He was honoured during celebration of 67th Republic Day at Delhi on 26th January, 2016.
Sarpanch of the village Bindu Choudhary and other prominent persons of the area resented non-payment of homage to the hero.
