Gold ends lower, silver slips

Mumbai:- Gold edged lower in listless trade at the bullion market here today due to lack of buying interest from stockists and retailers.

Silver too slipped owing to speculative selling and lower industrial demand.

Standard gold (99.5 purity) eased by Rs 5 to close at Rs 29,280 per 10 grams from Monday’s level of Rs 29,285.

Pure gold (99.9 purity) also moved down by a similar margin to finish at Rs 29,430 per 10 grams as against Rs 29,435 earlier.

Silver (.999 fineness) fell by Rs 110 per kg to finish at Rs 41,840 as compared to Rs 41,950 previously.

Globally, gold prices eased as the dollar recovered from seven-week lows, sliding after the yellow metal hit two-month highs earlier in the session amid signs that US President Donald Trump would adopt a protectionist stance on trade.

Spot gold slid 0.3 per cent to USD 1,214.2 per ounce at early trade, after hitting its strongest since Nov 22 at USD 1,219.59 earlier in the session.

Among other precious metals, silver shed 0.4 per cent to USD 17.13 per ounce.
