Transporters defer 72-hour strike

JAMMU: All J and K Transport Welfare Association on Sunday postponed the proposed 72-hour strike, starting from Monday, after give two days’ to the State Government for considering their demands including abolition of annual passenger welfare fund; rollback on hike in fitness fee and fee for renewal of other documents besides withdrawal of order on fixation of Speed Governors on all vehicles prior to 1st October 2016. They are also demanding amnesty scheme in passenger tax, special initiatives for 25-year old vehicles and revision of passenger fare.
President All J and K Transporters Association Tarlochan Singh Wazir told STATE TIMES that all the commercial vehicles were going on the strike but after meeting Chief Secretary, B.R Sharma, the Association has decided to postpone it so that state government can come out with a solution to their demands.
He said the Chief Secretary assured them that their genuine demands would be looked into. “In case our demands are not met within two days, the transporters would resort to strike from 26th January”, Wazir said adding that the government would be squarely responsible for any kind of inconvenience caused to the general public.
