Govt to set up 25 MW wind power project in Reasi

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday said a 25 MW wind power project will be set up in Reasi district of the state.
“A potential of 25 MW of wind power has been assessed at village Bidda, district Reasi, out of which 6 MW is being harnessed in the first phase as a pilot project,” State Minister for Science Technology Sajad Lone said in a written reply to the question of Congress MLA Aijaz Khan in the Assembly.
“The land for the project measuring approximately 534 kanals has been identified and it belongs to NHPC. The transfer of the said land to Science and Technology Department by NHPC is under consideration and at an advanced stage”, he informed.
The minister further said, the work will be initiated on the 6 MW wind project as soon as the land is transferred and it is expected that the project would be executed during the FY 2017-18.
“The detailed project report for the project has been prepared by the National Institute of Wind Energy, a subsidiary of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and the project is estimated to cost approximately Rs 50 crore.
There is no potential for harnessing wind energy at Thatharka in Ramban,” he said.
