Senior Police XI lifts Masters T20 Cup

JAMMU: Scripting a convincing 16 runs win over Parade Sports Association XI, Senior Police XI lifted the title trophy of the Third New Year Masters Twenty20 Cricket Cup which was organised by J and K Transport Department at Parade Ground here on Sunday.
Earlier, after winning the toss and batting first, Police XI managed a total of 165 runs for the loss of five wickets. Former J and K Captain, Dhruv Mahajan and Anand Tripathi were main scorers with 63 and 62 runs respectively. For Parade Sports Association XI, ex-J and K Captain, Sanjay Sharma scalped three wickets, while Sunny claimed two.
In reply, Parade Sports Association XI could not chase the target and completed their 20 overs for 149 runs with two wickets in hand. Pardeep Bali was the top scorer with 44 runs, while Sanjay Sharma and Anshuman contributed 37 and 12 runs respectively.
For Senior Police XI, R.K Bhat bagged three wickets and Kuldeep secured two. Rajesh Gill, Ramesh Kotwal and Shamsher shared apiece each.
Dhruv Mahajan was declared Man of the Match, while Anand Tripathi was adjudged Batsman of the Tournament. Shamsher Singh was declared Best Bowler and Gill Skipper named Man of the Series.
The competition was officiated by the technical panel comprising Saleem Ur Rehman, Sadiq Hussain, Sandeep Manchanda, Vinod and Sanjay.
Minister for Transport, Sunil Kumar Sharma was Chief Guest in the valedictory function while Principal Secretary, Transport Department, Bipul Pathak and Commissioner Transport, Vaneeta Gupta as also IGP Traffic, Shafkat Wattali and MD SRTC, M.A Sofi were Guests of Honour.
Speaking to the gathering, minister appealed to the participating cricketers to spread the message of Traffic Week. He said that the event was organised as part of the Traffic Week so as to involve masses in awareness about the traffic rules through the medium of sports.
Earlier Commissioner Transport Department, Vaneeta Gupta welcomed the gathering while vote of thanks was presented by RTO Jammu, Ashwani Khajuria.
The tournament wherein six teams of Media XI, Police XI, Doordarshan XI, Parade Sports Association XI, Cantt Cricket XI and Singh Akhnoor XI participated, was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Transport Department. Former Ranji Cricketer, Rajesh Gill was coordinator of the event.
