JAMMU: Foiled infiltration bid along the International Border in Samba sector of Jammu frontier has once again brought back the focus on strengthening three- tier security grid along the border areas to prevent repeat of fidayeen strikes along the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in the run up to the Republic Day celebrations.
Late Friday night, alert BSF troops had foiled a major infiltration bid by a group of heavily armed infiltrators via Tarna Nallah in Samba sector. One of the members of the group, possibly a local guide, who was leading the group, was neutralised by the BSF jawans near the border fence.
On Saturday, as senior BSF authorities from Jammu Frontier rushed to the spot to assess the ground situation, they ordered local BSF officers to beef up their defences and increase frequency of foot patrolling in the forward areas to keep a strict vigil on the movement of the suspected infiltrators.
After assessing the ground situation and going through the latest intelligence agency reports, senior BSF officers also advised the local police officers to increase the vigil along the border routes and activate their village defence committees as part of the annual drill to maintain tight vigil on the movement of anti-national elements, hell bent on executing their nefarious designs to penetrate through the International boundary to carry out terror strikes.
Meanwhile, security along the outer periphery of the various security camps and police stations has been enhanced to prevent any infiltration from executing the terror plot.
The police is also entrusted with the responsibility of exposing the network of the over ground workers to ensure the infiltrators do not get shelter in the border areas before launching the strike.
The highway patrol parties of the State police have been tasked with the job of keeping a close watch on movement of the vehicles coming from border areas to ensure anti -national elements do not gain easy access to the National Highway where a large number of security camps are located.
DIG Dharmendra Pareekh while interacting with the media on Saturday claimed the BSF troops are maintaining tight vigil along the International Border and carrying out thorough patrolling along the vulnerable routes including water bodies traditionally used by the infiltrators to sneak inside the Indian Territory.
He said after the body from the infiltrator was recovered by the BSF troops, they conducted thorough search and found nothing on the body of the slain infiltrator. This clearly indicated the slain infiltrator must have been engaged as a local guide to facilitate infiltrators.
