South Kashmir Sports Festival concludes;JKP to continue sports activities under CAP: DGP

JAMMU: Director General of Police (DGP), Dr. S. P Vaid on Saturday said that sports create camaraderie among the youth and shake physique of the youngsters.
It promotes mental development by creating high standards of discipline and maintaining physical fitness, he added. Dr. Vaid was speaking at the closing ceremony of South Kashmir Sports Festival at Degree College Anantnag on saturday afternoon.
He felicitated the participating teams who showed best performance during the tournament.
He said that more than 1,500 players of South Kashmir districts took part in one month long sports festival, which was inaugurated on 14th December, 2016. Different indoor and outdoor games including tennis ball cricket, volleyball, carom and kho-kho, besides athletics were played at different venues in district headquareter Anantnag, which was organised by South Kashmir Range. DGP appreciated the mass participation of South Kashmir youth in the Festival and said that the department is organizing various sports events under Civic Action Pogramme (CAP) to promote sports culture among the youth in the State.
He said that police organisation, besides its professional duties, is providing platform to the youth to achieve excellence in the sports field so that they could compete at higher levels. He said that the organization has chalked out the sports calendar and different tournaments of various sports events are being organised at different places across the State. He disclosed that for the promotion of sports activities among the youth, JKP has constructed mini stadiums at various district headquarters in the State. After receiving good response from the public, especially the youth, the department under its civic action programme, has identified more places which could be developed as play-grounds and by this way the youth of these areas could avail the facility of play-grounds, he added. IGP Kashmir, S.J.M Gillani, who was also present on the occasion, congratulated the players and the winning teams of the tournament. He appreciated the placyerts for maintaining standards of discipline during the entire tournament.
Earlier, DIG SKR, S.P Pani gave a brief resume of the Festival. He said that to make the event a success the organising committee had made good arrangements for maintenance of playing fields and also proper sanitation in and around the venues. He said that such activities would be organized in every district during 2017 to benefit the sports lovers.
The function was attended by SSsP/SsP, Shridhar Patil, Rayees Mohammad, Zubair Ahmed Khan, Fayaz Ahmed Lone, Tahir Saleem, Mohammad Zaid, Aijaz Rasool, Mubasher Hussain, Aijaz Ahmed Zargar, Azhar Bashir Baba, Ifroz Ahmed, senior journalist Tasaduq Rashid and other police officers.
