Mehbooba breaks down at launch of book on Mufti Sayeed

JAMMU: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti on Friday broke down in tears while trying to speak at the launch of a book containing speeches and write-ups of her father, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
The book compiled by Member, Legislative Council and former journalist, Firdous Tak, contains some of the historic speeches delivered by the former Chief Minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, including his address to the United Nations General Assembly in 2006, his first address in Legislative Assembly after taking over as the Chief Minister in 2002 and his speeches on party’s Foundation Day in 2005 and 2015.
The book also contains articles on life and contribution of the Mufti by renowned writers including Madhu Kishwar, Prem Shankar Jha, Barkha Dutt, Ashok Bhan, Iftikhar Geelani, Sajad Ghani Lone, David Devdas, Sanjay Nahar, Prof. Happymohan Jacob, Neerja Choudhary, Ghulam Nabi Khayal, Prof. Rekha Choudhary, Shujaat Bukhari, Zaffar Choudhary and Peerzada Ashiq.
Mehbooba also launched a website www.muftisayeed.com, containing videos and pictures of the former CM besides his speeches and interviews.
While addressing the gathering, Mehbooba said her father always dreamed about his people and their welfare. She said he used to always advise her that service to mankind was the biggest among all the prayers before God, adding that, she always saw him besieged with the problems and difficulties of common people.
Mehbooba said one of the great virtues of her father was that he taught his family to live the life of a commoner despite himself being in power and position, even at highest level, for decades together.
On the occasion, MP Muzaffar Hussain Baig and veteran journalist, Muhammad Sayeed Malik also shared their experiences of working with the former Chief Minister.
Baig described Sayeed as a multi-faceted personality, who in his political life stood as a realistic leader connected to the ground realities.
Malik said the former Chief  Minister always kept himself abreast with latest political developments.
Several Ministers, legislators, family of late Mufti Sayeed, members of legal fraternity, academicians, members of business community, writers and intellectuals were present on the occasion.
