JAMMU: Even as PDP-BJP dispensation is demonstrating unprecedented keenness in providing assistance to stone-pelters and street protests, who put Kashmir into boil for over four months, the victims of Pakistan shelling in Marh area are being denied of ex-gratia for the past over two months.
A teenager Vicky Kumar, 16 died due to shelling from across the border on 24th October last year at Lalyal area of the Akhnoor Sector while Ganiya Devi lost her leg. Both the victims belonged to Bihar and were engaged in farming as labourers. Soon after falling prey to the shells, both were shifted to hospital.
While Vicky Kumar died, the hugely damaged leg of the lady labourer was
amputated.
The BJP MP Jugal Kishore and Deputy Commissioner Jammu Simrandeep Singh had vested the victims and assured of assistance as per guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to next of kin, they were promised ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh tor the killed labourer and adequate assistance to the lady farm workers.
“Since the past two months, the victim families are running from pillar to post but nobody is prepared to listen to their woes, least to help them financially”, said a hapless relative of Vicky Kumar, wondering while the Coalition Government has all the time and resources for rehabilitating those indulging in anti-national activities, no words were there for those putting in their hard toil for increasing productivity in the border belts.
