LSWSD celebrates annual day-cum-Losar

NEW DELHI: Ladakh Students Welfare Society Delhi (LSWSD) in collaboration with Live to Love celebrated its Annual Day cum Losar on the theme ‘Beyond Diversity: Respect, Understanding and Equality’ here. The event was also supported by Roli Books, Let Us Cycle, Waterkeeper Alliance and Himalayan Glacier Waterkeeper. Khamdrak Rinpoche Jigme Tenzin Wangpo was Chief Guest on the occasion while Ambassador of Mongolia to India Gonchig Ganbold, Padma Shri Morup Namgyal, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Officer Tsewang Paljor, Young Drukpa Association (YDA) President Ngawang Rinchen Wacher, Vice President Venerable Tsetan Tashi, nuns, MIMC founder venerable Sanghasena, former Minister Union P. Namgyal and huge number of parents were also present. The programme commenced with the lighting of holy lamp “Chotemy” by the Chief Guest followed by his lecture on the theme of the event.
Appreciating the students’ efforts to preserve the culture and heritage of Ladakh through such events, he stressed upon the students for living a harmonious life. He added that apart from modern education student must acquire knowledge about cultural ethos of Ladakh to preserve its identity.
Local cuisines including Paba, Thukpa, Yosza (Roasted Barley, Chu-Tai etc) were also showcased. First year student Stanzin Stobjor divulged about the methods used to prepare these food items. Another LSWSD student Angmo said that Paba was most difficult delicacy to prepare. A short skit highlighting the exemplary communal harmony of Ladakh was also part of the celebration. A vibrant colourful culture programme showcasing Ladakh’s pride, unity and diversity enthralled the audience. A quiz competition focusing Ladakhi history, culture and geography was also held in which students unions of Jammu, Chandigarh, Dehradun and Delhi participated. All Ladakh Student Union Dehradun bagged the first prize. Later Chief Guest and dignitaries released a Guide Book titled “Forever Ladakh”, published by Roli Books, and a Dual Musical Album “Losar 2017” coproduced by Live to Love and YDA Ladakh. Besides Best Dressed Competition, lucky draw with exciting prizes, including a bicycle sponsored by Let Us Cycle, and prize distribution were also held. Earlier, presenting the welcome speech Ngawang Rinchen Wacher, representing Live to Love, elaborated on various activities undertaken jointly with YDA Ladakh.
